Brad Kanipe is a hard worker on and off the mat!  With his busy travel schedule and son's activities, he still makes time to get on the mat and continue his progress under Master Ricardo Murgel.  He's always got a friendly demeanor and his wrestling background has helped him build on his jiu jitsu foundation.   Brad won double gold at his first competition in December 2017!  Learn more about Brad below!

How did you discover BJJ? I had been looking for some type of martial art where I could leverage my old wrestling background. I came across the original Union gym when it shared a location with the local wrestling academy that my son attends.

How long have you been training in BJJ? 18 months

What are your BJJ goals? Short term: Pass Suleyman's guard. Longer term: Improvement each week and turn this into a long term physical activity.

What's your favorite submission? Paper cutter

What has training with Master Murgel and the Union Team taught you? That old dogs can still learn new tricks

What advice would you offer to someone wanting to get started with Jiu Jitsu? Stick with it, don't take the early struggles personally and find a school that doesn't have an ego.

What do you do when you're not training? Trying to live life to the fullest.

What's your favorite food? Mmmm, bacon.
